What a product warranty actually covers

WhattAPrice Editorial · Jul 30, 2026 · 5 min read

Manufacturer warranty, retailer protection and extended plans are three different products. Only one is free.

A manufacturer warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship for a fixed period. It does not cover drops, spills or wear.

Retailer protection plans usually extend the same defect coverage and sometimes add accidental damage. Read whether the remedy is repair, replacement or store credit.

Register the product. Many manufacturers require proof of purchase date, and registration is the cheapest way to keep it.
